With the establishment of the Clery Act, U.S. colleges and universities that receive federal funding are required to report on their campus security procedures. They must also disclose information about any incidents (such as alcohol and drug use, violence, sexual assault, prevention strategies, and response) that have taken place on or near campuses. They are then required to publish and distribute their findings on October 1st of every year in their Annual Campus Security Report. This report calls for the inclusion of statistics about campus crime and what measures are taken to improve campus security.
