How to Optimize Your Guard Tours

Millions of guard tours are completed every day. Unfortunately, not all of them are equally as efficient or cost effective.

Hi, Sean Miller from TrackTik, Senior Business Development Associate and today I’m going to talk to you about Guard Tours.

Did you know that there are over 10 million guard tours being done every single day? Some of them are good and some of them are just awful.
Today I’m going to give you some points and suggestions that you can take back and hopefully create the perfect guard tour for you and your clients.

Why do we need to have a great guard tour?

Guard tours are going to prevent crime which means that they are proactive and not reactive. By having your officers out in the field, making their rounds around the perimeters and the floors when people look at the site, they’ll see that it’s well monitored and well patrolled. By varying your time to do guard tours people possibly do harm on the property will never have an idea of when would be the best time to go and do this since at any point they would not know if the guard is going to do his rounds now or in 20-30 minutes.

How do we get these great guard tours done?

Well first of all, you’re going to sit down with your client. You’re going to come up with a plan and talk to them a little about what they need to be done on the property. What are some of their main issues, what do they notice are the most issues that arise? From there, you’ll develop a plan and put your checkpoints in certain areas. When you have these checkpoints, you’re going to want to make sure the officer that is doing the patrols will have to provide an action, whether it’s to look around the perimeter, make sure a door is locked, make sure everything is secure. So at each stop, you’re going to think to yourself what is the action that needs to be done here. Once you come up with the plan, you’ll end up creating this tour route, now once you’ve created your tour route, do a couple of tests. Don’t be afraid to change it. If it doesn’t look good or maybe it’s not working how you had set it up, you can revise it, analyze it and re-implement it. Once you come up with a great tour, present it to your client. You’ll have great business intelligence and hopefully give some more value to your client.
